The impact of humidity on the health of chickens
The harm of low humidity: Too low humidity can cause dehydration of the chicken body, poor absorption of yolk, dry feathers, and even death. Dry air can also cause the respiratory mucosa to become less moist, inhibit the motility of the ciliary epithelium, increase the chance of pathogenic microorganisms invading, and cause respiratory diseases.
Harm of high humidity: Excessive humidity can affect air quality, increase the concentration of CO2 and NH3, lead to a decline in litter quality, mold development, and cause problems such as gizzard glandular gastritis. Excessive humidity at high temperatures can also hinder the evaporation and heat dissipation of chickens, affecting their health.
Humidity control measures
Brooding period: Keep the humidity at 65%-70%, which can be increased by sprinkling water, using a humidifier, etc.
Growing period: Maintain the humidity at 50%-60% by controlling the ventilation volume and adjusting the temperature in the house.
